How to Stay Comfortable When You’re Visiting Warmer Climates Abroad

Going on holiday to a sunshine destination is always good fun, although a better time can be had by preparing for it properly. As we live in quite a mild climate, going abroad can sometimes put our bodies into a state of shock; it takes a little while to acclimatise to the warmer temperatures and humidity levels. There are a few things you can do to make yourself more comfortable during the beginning of your getaway, and also for the rest of it too. Here are some helpful suggestions for your next trip:

    Use air conditioning

The moment when you step off the plane and into the terminal building can feel a bit unreal; how can somewhere possibly be that much hotter than the UK? By the time you pull up into your resort, you’re regretting the pair of jeans and jumper you put on before your flight, and are desperate to get into something cooler. It is advisable to turn on the air conditioning in your room when you arrive as your body will need to be cooled down – you don’t want to panic yourself with the heat. You will be able to unpack much more happily and find those cooler clothes you need. Air conditioning can also be helpful at night to get a better night of sleep.

    Drink plenty of water

Another good habit to take up when you’re abroad is to drink lots of water. It might be tempting to head straight to the bar for your favourite cocktail, but you’ll need to stay hydrated for your health and wellbeing. Try and have a glass of water for each alcoholic beverage you have, and of course have plenty of nourishing liquids when you’re at the beach. It will also help to keep you cool.

    Wear comfortable clothing

It’s hard to avoid becoming hot and sticky when you’re away, but you can minimise your discomfort by wearing thin materials such as linen. Loose fitting items are better as they won’t hold as much sweat to your body, and where possible try and stick with light colours and whites. Another worthwhile investment is English made wide fitting shoes as feet tend to swell in warm conditions. Get these in the UK before you go as you’ll be able to verify the quality unlike many souvenir shops in your resort.

    Seek the shade

Lastly, it’s very important to spend time out of the sunshine and into the shade. It is easier than you think to end up with sunburn or heat stroke, so remember to take care of yourself. It’s not healthy to sit out in the sun all day, so at least use your sun lotion and put on a wide brimmed hat. When you’re on the beach, it is advisable to use a parasol as it will give you a cool bit of sand to enjoy, as well as keeping your body and drinks out of the direct rays.
